Ruby is an uncomplicated bed for a child's room: a softly upholstered frame, a headboard at a comfortable 50 inches to sit back against, and no fuss beyond that. It is the sort of bed that lets the rest of the room — the posters, the shelves, the things that change every other year — do the talking.

The decision worth taking time over is size. A single at 105cm wide leaves the most floor for everything else a child's bedroom has to hold. A small double at 130cm gives them space to grow into, and somewhere for a parent to sit properly at bedtime rather than perch. Both are 205cm long.

A Rio mattress in the same size is supplied with the bed, so the room is usable the day it arrives. The frame itself is cut and upholstered by hand only after you order, in whichever cloth and colour you have settled on, which is also why no two are dimensionally identical. Check the room and the route in, and allow a little tolerance.
